In his Financial Statement the Premier referred hopefully to the prospects of the wool market. The estimated population of the world in 1882, he said, was 1,433,887,000, and the last information from which a fairly accurate estimate could be got was'for 1902, when the population had risen to 1,600,000,000, an increase in the twenty years of 166,113,000. , It was fair to calculate that from 1902 to 1908 the increase had been another 60,000,000, so that the world’s population had increased in twenty-six years by fully 226,000,000 of people. “ The most experienced men engaged in the wool business,” said the Premier, “ recognfce that the wool supplies have not increased anything in proportion to the increase of population, and some of the best judges are of opinion that the fall in the value of wool which has taken place, due chiefly to the dislocation of the financial world ■ >. -I.' ■Il J • J ■'' ' ' .
