At Paris, M. Barman’s aeroplane flew eleven miles in 20min 20sec, winning the Armengard prize of 10,000 francs. The international automobile race at Dieppe, in France, was witnessed by 75,000 persons. While motoring near the town on Friday, Mr Hall Watt, an Englishman was killed. * Sir Felix Schuster ahid others in a letter to the newspapers, urge the postponement of old age pensions until a report ia furnished by the Royal Commission on poor law. They declare that the Bill alters the position of friendly societies and discourages thrift. Under its operation a new system of out-door relief would be introduced, reviving evils partially removed by the reforms of 1834. The Lambeth Conference was opened on Monday in Canterbury Cathedral with an impressive service, at which 4000 persons were present. • In welcoming the delegate, 2-52 in number, the Primate said that never in the history of the English Church had there been a gathering fraught with mightier issues.
