A lion severely mauled a girl of 14 who was performing in a menagerie at Montpellier, France. The girl was in a cage with a lion and two lionesses, when the lion attacked her from behind and tore her back with a blow. The girl cowed the beast with her whip, and was helped out of the cage fainting.
