0 A fatal accident occurred at Fordell on Thursday, when a lad fourteen years of age; a son of Mr Campbell, manager of Burnetn’s station, was killed by being thrown from a horse while mustering sheep.
James Moncrief, sen. aged 78 years w 7 as killed at Carterton on Thursday by a tree which was being topped striking him on the head in its fall. Medical aid was summoned, but he died before the doctor arrived. Deceased was father of Mr J. Moncrief, junr., town clerk of Carterton.
Two Chinamen named Ah Joe and Joe Wee were fined £5O each and costs at the Wellington Magistrate’s Court for selling pakapoo tickets, and ten Europeans, for being found on the premises’ were fined. 50s each.
James Alwin Schmidt and Matthew William Cummings employed at the Auckland post-office, were charged at the Police Court with the theft of postal notes valued at £2 and 2s fid respectively. The Crown Prosecutor stated that other charges were pending, and asked for a remand, which was granted.
Anxiety is being felt for the safety of a fisherman known as Harry (a German), who left Pegasus, hear Invercargill nine or ten days ago. aud has not been heard of since. He had been living with two other fishermen in a tent, and -was left sitting up one night when the others went te rest, In the morning Hairy had gone, and tracks indicated that he had gone towards the Remarkables.
Mr George Robertson, a wellknown and highly lespected farmer, owner of the Kakahu estate, w’as found dead on the roadside near Geraldine on Thursday morning. He left Geraldine to drive to his home the previous night. Jt is su'rmiscd that he must have taken a fit or been seized with heart failure, causing him to fall
from his'trap. The deceased w T as about sixty years of age and leaves a grown up family.
At the Nelson Supreme ICourt George Bland, found guilty o. theft of money from a hotel Motueka, was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment. A lad 16 years of age charged with carnally knowing a girl over 12 and under 16 pleaded, guilty, and was ordered to come up for sentence w r hen called upon, his father being required to enter into recognisances for the boy’s future good behaviour.
