AUSTRALIAN NEWS.
Education in New South Wales is costing 10/3 per head of the population. After a long spell of dry weather <rood rains have fallen in Svdney. It is stated that arrangements are practically complete for reciprocal trade with New Zealand. Experiments made with the Danysz virus in New South Wales proves its effectiveness against rabbits.
WILFUL MURDER.
A t the* inquest on the wife of Natella Habibulla, the Afghan, at Adelaide on Friday, whose dismembered body was found in Torrens Lake, evidence was given that on Sunday the husband threatened to have a big row with his wife, who was out for a drive, because she did not keep her promire to return to tea. When she camo home they upbraided each other. Natella sent the servant out, and on her return at ten o’clock the house was locked up. Mrs Natella was not again seen. Medical evidence pointed to the fact that death had resulted from strangling. The jury returned a verdict of w.lful murder against Natella.
ALMOST STARVED. The steamer Marelba brought two British sailors, named Brown and Green, from Tahiti. They were a portion of the crew of the Chilian schooner Sarita, which was wrecked at Easter Island on November sth. The rest of the crew, who were Chilians, were all saved. The men complain that they were placed at the end of the island away from the other inhabitants, and almost starved. They had to eke out an existence until the arrival of the warship Cambrirn, which took them to Tahiti. The rest of the crew, with the exception of the captain and mate, who had left the island previously.
