School Committee.

*— The monthly meeting of the Waipukurau School Committee was held at the school-house last evening. Present —Messrs Gow (chairman), Barrie, Bogle, Bailey, Hopkirk, and Annand. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Head Master reported the number on the roll to be 187, and the highest attendance 178; 27 new names had been added to the roll since the middle of June. The report was considered very satisfactory. COKREBPONDENCE. From Taradale School Committee re the appointment of a truant officer for the district. It was decided to co-operate with any movement made in the matter. From the Board of Education, stating that no funds were available for an extra grant for repairing spouting.—Received. From the same body, asking for further information re technical school—Received. From Mrs Seddon, acknowledging gratefully the letter of condolence received from the Committee. The application of the Revs. J. Pattison and F. M. Martin to teach Bible lessons in the school was granted, it being understood that the instructions were not to interfere with the lessons of the school. The Chairman’s action in granting a week’s holiday after the examination was confirmed. Messrs Gow and Annand were appointed the visiting committee for the month. The meeting then terminated.
