FOOTBALL.

-■ Dannevirke v. Waipukurau. The above match was played at Waipukurau on Wednesday last in the presence of a fair attendance. Pirie and White took the places of Glasgow and Wall, who were unable to be present. The game resulted in a win for Dannevirke by 12 points to 6—4 tries to 2. The match, from a spectator’s point of view, was of a disappointing character. Both teams played without combination, the passing at times was desperately wild, and many good openings were lost through players holding the ball too long- Dannevirke’s tries were secured, not by any exceptional play, but by lack of cohesion on the part of the local backs. The visitors’ attempts at goal-kicking were very poor, and fell wide of the mark every time. Gordon, Drinkwater, and Bartlett (2) scored tries for the visitors, the later on one occasion accepting a pass from an opposing player at half way succeeded in scoring a try. Tor Waipukurau, Jackson, who scored both tries, played a good game, taking some difficult passes, and invariably making the best use of them. Mitchell did a lot of work, and the same may be said of White. Mr Gooseman filled the position .of referee in his usual good style.
