The Waipukurau Press. Friday,, July 27, 1906. LIGHTING.
As the time draws near for the taking of the poll for the raising of £2OO for street lighting, the issue has become somewhat clouded owing to a rival light entering the field. In this issue we are in-’ serting as much information as possible so as to help to formulate public opinion upon a subject in which the ratepayers and public generally are so deeply interested. Anything which would savour of failure must be carefully avoided, otherwise a set-back might be given to a forward movement, and those who have been working hard be discouraged. It seems that the issue before the ratepayer is for the installation of six Kitson lights, all the necessary procedure having been gone through with this intention, and it seems hardly likely ihat this can be interfered with until a poll has been taken upon the question. At the same time, it would be unfortunate for the town were this first progressive effort to result in failure. We are given to understand, however, that the estimates have been trained on the highest basis, and that the cost of übkeep @f the Kitson light will be considerably under the estimate. As it is the intention to give a display of both lights during next week, the public will be opportunity of making a comparison. That Waipukurau/s ready for a street - is generally and we feel sure the desire of the leaders in is to get the best light/ procurable.
