The Waipukurau Press. Friday, June 15, 1906. THE MINISTRY.
'Through the death of the Premier the Cabinet’s status became rather unsatisfactory. By laws of the Constitution the death of the Prime Minister causes the Ministry to cease to exist; while on the other hand, the Prime Minister has power to replace any of his Ministers who may die. The Governor, therefore, sent for Mr Hall-Jones to form a Ministry ; the Acting-Premier is thought to be able to do so, but, apparently with the Governor’s consent, ha* decided not to take any action in the- matter until after the funeral obsequies of the late Premier. Meantime the Ministry holds office until its successor is appointed. It might be found advisable for the present Ministry to hold office until the return to this colony of Sir Joseph Ward, at the end of July. Sir Joseph seems to be the man who is marked as Mr Seddon’s successor. It is almost certain there will be other changes in the personnel of the Ministry. Parliament meets on 27th inst. Imprest Supply having been obtained, there will probably be an adjournment until about the second week in August. The session will be a short one.
