Enquiring for Details.

An Irish priest, lately returned from America, was telling in conversation to some friends of the rum way Americans have of addressing cl* rgy of all ranks. To instance this he told the following story: jA bishop, presumably an Irishman, whom he had known, was staying at one of the large cities. One day the bishop had entered a restaurant, and seated himself at a table, when a young Yankee who was at the table opposite, rose from his seat, and swaggering up, thus rudely accosted him : — “ Waal, Bishop,” said he, “ guess I’ve seen you before! Whaar in baal did I see you ?’ The bishop, who was a known wit, paused, and then, in the usual style of the Americans of answering a question by asking another, quite tamely enquired,— “ Pray, friend, what part of hell did you come from ?”• The Yankee did not wait to reply, but taking up his hat glided out of the restaurant.
