A fire at Waikino on Saturday night totally destroyed Montgomery’s Waikino Hotel, four business premises, a boardidghouse, and the residence of Constable Fiavell. The fire started through a lamp in a room at the rear of the hotel upsetting. The total loss, including insurances, is between £7OOO and £BOOO. Advice conies from Rome that the volcano Stromboli is active, emitting rocks and lava. The Antwerp wool sales closed with increased competition.
