LIGHTING.
[To the Editor.] Sir, —The burgesses will shortly be called up to give an expression of their views on the question of lighting the town. Has electricity been taken into consideration, or has it been overlooked ? This system is extremely cheap after first cost, and I understand Waipukurau is very conveniently situated for its adoption. The light is suited for both houses and streets.. I believe there are companies in New Zealand that instal electric systems and make only a nominal charge to the users. The light exhibited on Saturday night appears to be satisfactory ; but this is a matter which should not be done in a hurry. This town is growing and must continue to grow, and in my opinion the residents ought to “ take the bull by the horns ” and, while they are about it, adopt a system that will suffice for at least a few years to come, even if a loan of a thousand pounds or more be necessary. As a ratepayer and one having some stake in the place, I hope the city fathers will not advocate a small, paltry system of lighting, but recommend the residents to go in for something broad and substantial.—Yours, etc.,
Advance.
