Wedding.
— o — GROOM—COOK. A marriage that created a good deal of interest locally was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church of England, Waipukurau, on Wednesday afternoon by Rev H. Cowx, of Waipawa. The contracting parties were Mr Bernard Groom, of the railway staff, to Miss May Gertrude, fourth and youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. W. Cook, of Waipukurau. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming attired in a becoming costume of navy blue canvas voile, trimmed with silk lace to match,, lace yoke and cuffs, veil and orange blossom ; she carried a beautiful shower bouquet of white flowers, and the bridesmaids were Miss S_ Groom, sister of the bridegroom, who wore cream lama and picture hat, and little May Cook, in white silk. Mrs Cook, mother of the bride, wore black silk. Mr Fred Cook acted as best man. There was a large attendance in the church, and the service was choral, Miss F. Jolley presiding at the organ and playing the Wedding March as the happy couple left the church. The wedding breakfast was held at Mr Cook’s residence, where there was a large assemblage of relatives and friends and appropriate speeches and toasts were duly made and honored. Mr and Mrs Groom left by the 5.30 train for Dannevirke and Wanganui, a large number of friends assembling on the platform to see them off, rice-throwing being freely indulged in. They will re-* side in Waipupurau. A dance and social gathering, held in the evening in honor of the event, was numerously attended, a very enjoyable time being spent. A large number of useful and ornamental wedding presents were sent, many being of considerable value. The following were included in the list:—

Groom ; set of irons, Joe Cook; glass dishes, Nicholls; Japanese tray Mrs Butler ; C. W. Mitchell, lamp ; Mrs Fee, glass dishes ; Stowe sugar basin and c. jug; Covleglass dishes; Guthridge s', tray and silk centre ; J. W. Cook set of jugs and travelling wraps; Evans, cheque; Roberts, cheque ; Rev. Cuwx, books ; Misses Thoudy pair vases and Japanese tray , Miss McLean sugar basin and jug ; Miss Peckett sugar basin and jug. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a gold curb bracelet, and to the bridesmaids greenstone brooches. The bride’s present to the bridegroom was a greenstone gold mounted pin.
