The Waipukurau Press. Tuesday, March 20, 1906. THE NEW ZEALAND EXHIBITION.
—o — The decision of the British Government to take part in the Christchurch Exhibition will, it. is to be hoped, have the effect of stimulating within the colony itself interest and enthusiasm in that great undertaking. So far it seems the Exhibition has failed to excite that keen interest which is so essential to the success of all such enterprises. But now it is beginning to command attention in many countries, and there is every probability of a splendid series of exhibits being forthcoming from oversea lands. All that is required to complete its attractiveness is that it should, so far as New Zealand and its dependencies are concerned, be given a thoroughly national character. It is an undertaking in which the people of the colony as a whole should take a lively interest. Nothing should be left undone by them to secure its success. New Zealand, in spite of the notoriety it has acquired owing to its daring in the domain of experimental politics, stands sorely in need of being better known for its less sensational and hazardous qualities—for its great natural resources, its pastoral and agricultural potentialities, its industrial development, and its suitability for settlement on a large scale. The enormous influx of visitors which the exhibition is expected to attract will assist in the diffusion of this knowledge, and in this way 1 the whole of the colony will benefit. The Exhibition is to open on Ist November next.
