TOWN BOARD.
Q MONTHLY MEETING. The Waipukurau Town Board met last night. Present —Commissioners Chambers (chairman), Mitchell, Williams, J. J. Bailey, Gore, Seymour, J. Staines; also the clerk and the overseer. Minutes of previous ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. i Correspondence. — Letter from A r aluer-General, stating that board’s roll had been posted, and a supplementary roll would be sent. From the Postmaster, stating that the trimming of trees on the post office section would be attended to. From the District Railway Engineer, stating that the river reserve was now vested in the Railway Department, and asking the board io desist placing nightsoil there. —The chairman said this was the most suitable place, and had been approved by the health authorities.—lt was resolved (GoreStaines), that the resident engineer be asked to reconsider his decision, or define a spot to bury nightsoil. From A. Knight, asking Board to form road between Church of England and his hotise. —Alatter held over pending enquiry whether road had been conveyed to the Crown.
From D. Annand, asking permission to connect with main drain. —Granted, owner of property to bear cost.
Rate.—As the roll will not be ready before the middle of April, it was resolved on the motion of Com’r Williams, seconded by Comr Staines, that the resolution carried at a previous meeting be rescinded. Foreman’s Report. —As an outcome of this, it was resolved that the southern footpath in the main street be re-tarred ; that the work of forming and metalling the Cemetery road to the extent of £l5 be proceeded with ; that the footpath from Bank to Skidmore’s corner be also gone on with; that the foreman be empowered to employ two casual hands ; that repairs to footpath be effected at Poynter’s ; that Church alley be metalled ; that the watertables from railway crossing to racecourse road be cleaned out, and that Pa flat drain be attended to. Report adopted. The agreement between the Road Board and Town Board was presented, and signed by the chair-nan and Com’r Alitchell. Complaints were read from H. Thompson about certain alleged doings of the nightsoil contractor. The chairman and foreman made explanations, and the next business was proceeded with. Clerk. —The chairman drew attention to the large amount of work devolving on the clerk, and thought his remuneration quite inadequate. Com’r Williams proposed,and Comr Bailey seconded, that the clerk’s salary be increased by £lO, from commencement of duties. Carried unanimously. [Balance of report will appear in next issue.]
