Mr G. Pirie is leaving for Hastings shortly. Regret will be expressed by a large circle of friends. At a meeting of sawmillers and settlers held at Utiku in connection with the proposed light railway from Utiku to Lower Moawhango, Inspector Mair’s report, which was before the last Rangitikei County Council meeting, was read, and favourably received. A resolution was passed directing the Rangitikei Council to proceed with the proposal. Government will now be approached in regard to getting a special bill passod in order to raise money for this work. Mr Maher’s cab has been overhauled and repainted at Mr Booth’s factory. The vehicle now looks like a new one. A family from Waihola, Otago, the head of which, Mr J. Nicholas, secured a section in Flaxbourne, trekked up from Titri Valley to Marlborough. Four of them, travelling in a buggy, covered 280 miles to Christchurch, in ten days, and they hoped to complete the journey of 500 miles in seventeen days from Waihola.
