—o — The programme of the Waipukurau Jockey Club’s Easter meeting is published. Nominations close on March 12th. The Auckland-bred mare Gladsome won the Ninth Caulfield Futurity Stakes of 1500 sovs. Frank NclSamara, well known as the trainer of the racer Gladsome, died at Melbourne last week. The Foxton Facing Club is credited with making a profit of £5OO over its recent meeting. The recently formed horse-owners’ association intend holding a meeting at Wanganui on March 1, when ’ officers, etc., will be elected. There was a complete upset of the pot in the running of the Egmont Hack Sires’ Produce Stakes. Dame Fortune, who scored an easy victory, was the outsider of the field. Mongonui’s coming two-year-old daughter by San Fran, who fell to the bid of Mr Poyzer, of Wairoa, at the sale of the Te Mahanga yearlings last week, has been handed over to A. Wood at Greenmeadows to be broken in. In referring to the appointment of the young New Zealander 1. D. > Jones to Major Edwardes’ stable in England, at a retainer of £5OO a year, “ The Possible,” of the Canterbury Times, pays a high tribute to his character, and states that on all headings he is a credit to his profession.
