The annual shooting competition for the Coleman shield took place on the Waipawa range on W ednesdav. Eight teams competed, the Ranfurly Rifles winning with a total score of 964, Dannevirke Rifles being second with 956. VS jth a score of 435, the Weber Rifle Club No. 1 team won the handsome shield presented by Airs Franklin for competion among rifle clubs in Hawke’s Bay, five men aside, lhe belt for the’highest scorer in the Cole nan shield fell to Sergeant Duley, Dannevirke, with a score of 94. The Bolton cup, for the best score in a mounted corps, went to Sergt. McCormick, H.B. Mounted Rifles. The Napier match was won by Col-sergt. Grindel, the Waipawa match by McMullen, the Hastings match by James, the gold medal by T. Williams, the silver medal by J. Franklin. Cricket Waipukurau A v. Dannevirke A. The teams met on the local ground on Wednesday. The scoring was poor in both innings— Waipukurau 33 aud 33, Dannevirke 31 and 17. The only local players to reach double figures were Fred Bailey, Godfray, and Wolstenholme —ll, 11, and 10 respectively. Sharpin bowled six for 16, and Chambers two for 0 and six for 8.
