Mr and Mrs Gow returned from Auckland last evening, after a pleasant visit to the hot lakes district, where there were hundreds of visitors. Mr Gow informs us that the country between New Plymouth and Waipukurau is looking splendid. A year-old native child (boy), from Porangahau, died at Waipukurau yesterday. It was ill, we hear, and died while being given a bath. Mackay & Co. have prime oaten chaff for sale. It is reported among those who know Sir Thomas Lipton well JJthat he is a benedict, having secretly marrisd.a Scotch girl in humble circumstances years ago, before he dreamed of reaching his present condition of prosperity. People who knew Sir Thomas in his- youth say that the facts are well known to certain people. Sir Thomas himself has nothing to say on the subject. The announcement is made
that he is seeking a country seat in Ireland, either in Wicklow or Meath County. Mr W. H. Booth has just completed the building of a low, heavy haulage cart for use at the Spit The cart is splendidly built, and the fact of the order being placed here speaks well for the firm’s reputation. Seven centuries ago it was quite the thing to carry silver toothpicks suspended round the neck by a chain.
