[To the Editor.] Sir, —My attention has been drawn to an effusion appearing in the Waipawa paper, signed “J. Blackmore,” complaining of my action in removing a worn - out nightsoil pan. The writer describes my action as “outrageous;” but I contend I did the proper thing and did not exceed my duty. A month ago the pan was unfit for use, and I informed the son that unless the matter was attended to I would have to inform the health officer. If that person had come along, the complaint would have worn a very different aspect. No notice to replace pan is required on my part —■ that’s the owner’s lookout.—l am, etc., A. J. Smith, Waipuk.
