LOCAL WANTS.
0 This township possesses an excellent public library. But in most centres boasting such an institution, a public reading-room is to be found, but we are deficient in this respect. A reading room could, apparently, be provided for so little outlay, too. Once established, it would secure a lot of literature without cost to library committee, audit would be a convenience to many persons, especially strangers to the place. To be up to date, Waipukurau should endeavour to provide such an adjunct to its library. i Why not a Town Band ? There is surely sufficient musical, talent hereabouts to form a band, or at any rate the nucleus of a band. Bands are useful institutions, and give tone ” to the places wherein they exist. The necessary instruments could be procured on terms, a , is frequently done ; there would undoubtedly be many engagements in the town and-district, and money would accrue from iltese. If one or two enthusiasts took the matter up, there seems no reason why the proposal should not meet with hearty support. Another matter that will no doubt recdive the early attention of the
Town Board is street lighting. When the moon shines not, there are some very dark spots in this neighbourhood, and a few illuminators—betheyUnly even oil-flickers —-would be appreciated to the utmost degree by a large number of residents.
There are several other requirements worth suggesting, but enough for the present sitting.
