“A Real Curio.”
—o—(Saturday s Bulletin.) The Waipukurau Press prints what is a real curio to anyone in the typographical world. The paper has just been started, and some of the type used was bought from the Government Printing Office in Wellington. Most of it was tied up in pxckages of matter that had been printed from, bnt had not been put back in the cases, or as it is called—distributed. One package contained part of a document proclaiming the provinces into which the country was divided in connection with an Act to grant a representative constitution to the colony. The date is 1853, so that this particular package of type (Figgin s) has lain in the Govt Printer's store for 53 years, and after that time is printed in the first issue of the Waipnk paper exactly as it was at the original date. How many people, from the Governor who made the proclamation to the printers devil who helped to publish, it to-the world at large, has it outlived to blossom again as part of New Zealand's youngest newspaper. We venture to say this is a curio which it would be hard to match, and it is a pity a stereo was not taken of it before it was relaid after its resurection from a grave wherein it had remained over half a. century—so long that the string had rotted off it.
