The strtigglo for 20ii Metre Hill occupied live days, and there was desperate lighting, ' In tho fourth charge, on the 27th, the Japanese captured Red Hill, south of 2011 Metro Hill, after two failures.
Tho third charge was especially furious.
By a counter-attack at night the Russians re-captured the position. Next day the Japanese attacked 20!! Metre"ilill desperately. While advancing beiween Metre and Red Hills, lliey were decimaied by fire from both I'orls?, but they swept on, capturing the south-east corner and northern face, and also taking a lodgment near the parapet of the south-west face.
The operations were very costly, both sides throwing many grenades.
At dawn on ill" 2'Jiiitlie Russians made a furious counterattack, and were largely successful, On tho ijlltli stiong- Japanese reseserves renewed the attack on the south-west face. The fighiling was continuous all day. , The Japanese artillery, assisted by Ihe ships, were very elective in the afternoon, and the Russians weakened.
The Jtjpanese tried but failed to rush the trenches, losing heavily.
