HoioßUi, this day A sand bank at the mouth of the river issuing from Lako Tarawera has given way, and lowered the lake by some 5 feet 6 inches.
Tho rush o( this great body of water has scoured out the river ohannel from 25feet to a width of about 80 yards, and converted it into a mass of foaming wpids for two miles, oulminating in two splendid falls, one 400 foot high, and tli3 other having a break in it,
The scour has damaged the approaches to all the bridges in tho vicinity, four of the bridges being carried away ontiroly,
