One man Killed
Five Others Seriously Wounded

Whilb at target practice at Port Ballanco this morning tho breech lock of a 12 pounder blew out, killing one of the squad, J, A Palmer, and wounding fivo others, H, C. Peterson, J. T. Slines, BCordyoe, L, F, O'Noill, and H. J. Sweoney, Palmer was severely injured in tho region of the chest and arm, and was blown sovorol yards away, Tho mishap occurred shortly after olovon o'clock. Paltnor died before noon. It is hoped that all the others willrccovor. Lat&r Palmer was married only a few mouthi ago. Petorson, who is a brother of the manager of tho Wellington Electric Tramway, is also a married man, and has boon in the artillory for a great many years, All the other injured men aro unmarried. Sevoral rounds had beon fired before the accident occurred. Paltnor was blown several yards away, Tho condition of some of the' others is serious, but hopes arc ontortttiuod of their recovery.
