At tho Supremo Court to-day, boforo Mr Justice Edwards, Annio Catherino Lewis, >n rather attractive lady, sued for divorce from her husband, Bossott Otiarlos ForRth Lewis, on the ground of alleged 'UGJfcy and habitual drunkouness for ovor nr years. The petitioner said she was married to her husband, a bootmaker, in October, 1898, and lived with him for four nnd a quarter yoars, in Victoria-stn ct, He was addicted to drink at tho time of she marri. age. but nho thought she could reform him, Tho marriage was opp.wod by her own people, and her hopo of refouu was never realisod. Ho drank continually for weeks at a timo, and cruelly treated' her oven when sober. Ho was once charged in tho Polico Court with being drpnk, and with having a loaded revolver, with which he had threatened to shoot her. Shownsat the time of this occurrence on her way to take out a prohibition order against him, and ho met hor and struck her, On many nights sho had to leave her house on account of this treatment, and stay with herniations, Ho broko all the furniture, pulled down the chandelier, aud throat- , ened to kill hor with it. He threw boiling I/ater over her three months before her »at baby was bom. Hcrrolatives some* Imos defended her, and her brother onco eve hor husband a thrashing, Dr SharJan also told him ho would give him a arasbing on one occasion bocauso lie 11roated her when sho was ill on ,o Bcond day aftor her last baby ,as orn. Bha finally departed with tho cbildron, and ro?ided with her motlior, Hor husband, who was now living at Tall'ua, near Mercury Bay, had nevor contributed to her support, but on the contrary about a year ago ho wrote and asKed her to send him some money, She got a maintenance order against him nnd Jib was imprisoned for a month, but paid nothing, A decree nisi was granted,
