THE RAISING OF RENTS.
INQUIRY AT SYDNEY. Press Association.—!Telegraph.—Copyright SYDNEY. November 9. The sittings of the Special Committee appointed to inquire into the raising of rents has. commenced. A„ witness declared that he was burntout, and compelled to take the first house available. Seeing uis predicament, the landlord raised the rent from 9s to 15s. The tenant effected repairs at his own expense, and the rent was raised to 17s. The house was not worth more than .£l5O. Other witnesses stated that it was impossible to get a house at a fair rental.
