Joel’s" colours were carried to victory by White Star, a brother to. the Derby winner Sunstar. The colt is, likely to be kept in mind during the winter for the Derby of next season. White Star wonAhe Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last month. That is more than Sunstar could do as a two-year-old. He finished third. , - When White Star was stripped for his successful engagement at Doncaster, he was so full of life and energy that lie bolted with Stern on leaving the paddock. In a few hundred yards, however, the French Jockey had him under perfect control. At the post. White Star, in moving forward, got entangled in the tapes, and Stern was hurled backwards by these, and deposited on the ground.; Whit© Star sauntered; off riderless in the direction of the mile-post, where lie came to a standstill in . a corner by the wood, -/and was caught by a spectator and re-mounted by Sterne,, who made his way to the spot with all possible, expedition. It was not thought the escapade took anything out of the-colt, because he -was not galloping wildly, nor in the least bit 'frightened. , Then he was given plenty of : breathing time at the., post, through Jaeger backing into the tapes and unshipping his Jockey, while later Maher, oh Jingling Geordie, got into trouble.-- Maher.,, after the race, complained of being bumped, by White Star. , ,
