ARBITRATION COURT.
A COMPENSATION CASE. : (Pet United Press Association.) ’ DUNEDIN, November 7. , In . the Arbitration Court compensation is claimed on behalf of William Barton ■ for injuries sustained while employed by Thomas Latta, a sawmiller, of Gatlins, by which the plaintiff lost the -sight of one Oye. Mr O’Eegan appears for plaintiff, and Mr Hay for defendant. This is a test cose. The plaintiff was knocking “burrs” Off an axe with a cold chisel when a piece of inetol flew off, causing the injury stated. The case is proceeding. Later. Decision was reserved in the compensation case of Barton v. Latta. A WIDOW’S CLAIMS. DUNEDIN, November 6. In the Arbitration Court to-day the case of Snowdown v. Union Steam Ship Company was heard. Plaintiff was Harriet Snowdown, whose husband was killed on one of the company’s boats at Napier. The amount of the claim (,£4BO 9s) had been paid into Court, including .£2O for special expenses, which, however, amounted to £29 15s, leaving £9 15s as a further claim. The Court ordered that .£6O be paid .to the widow immediately, the balance to be invested by the Public Trustee, The interest to be applied for the benefit of three dependents. DUNEDIN, November 7. In the Arbitration Court, C. H. Stubbs, coal miner, sued the N.Z. Coal and Oil Company for payment of 23s a week from May 22, until such time as plaintiff is able to work. After a great deal of evidence was given, derision was reserved.
