Apparently labouring under the delusion that he was in a hotel, the visitor balanced himself against the counter, and fixing the nearest (clerk with a thirsty stare, demanded liquid refreshment. ''Then the following dialogue commenced: —Clerk (keeping up the deception! ; “I can't serve you, old man ; you’re top drunk.” Intoxicated individual: “Gimme a drink; don’t argue the point.” Clerk: “Can’t do it my Imv; wed lose our license.” 1.1. (with rising wrath): “Am I going to get a drinki . Clerk; “Go home and have a sleep Then, seeing that the ioke had gone far enough, he added: “You’re in the wrong shop; this is not a hotel. It’s Messrs and Co.’s.” 1.1. (grasping the true state of affairs); “All right, mister; 111 get.” He got, falling not ungracefully down the entrance steps as hj? did so. Messrs Baldwin, and Hayward, whose local representative is Mr J, j., .Stevenson, Wicksteed Place, report that amongst the many applications for patents they have just filed are:—lV. H. and J. T Warburtpn, Otago, convertible hoe; \v’. E. Gregory. Dunedin, telegram form; R. S. Haughton, Wellington, filling liquids into jars; W. Long, Gisborne, rifle tdeaner. ’
