(Per United Press Association.) - WELLINGTON. .November 6. A development has taken place in. the dispute between 'the Merchant Service Guild and the ‘Shipowners'. Federation. A meeting was held to-day, and the owners’ proposals were - considered, lint nothing definite was done, as the majority of the mates were against the proposals. The masters have stated their intention of resuming work to-morrow, .and- some reported.themselves this evening- as ready to rejoin their vessels. The .mates decline to resume. Another meeting of the Guild wiii be held to-morrow to consider the position. NELSON, November 6. The Anchor Company received intimation on Sunday of the possibility of a settlement in regard to the two of their ships , which have, resumed, and the crews were assembled awaiting a definite statement. About B o'clock this evening it was announced that the Kaitoa and the Nikau would sail for Wellington, and the' vessels ielt air hour later. The manager of die company, when questioned this evoniug as to the indjeatious of a settlement oi tlie coastal strike, said he could make no official .announcement whatever. A MYSTEMoUS DISAPPEARANCE (Per United Press Association.) INVEIIGAItGILL, November 6. There has been-a mysterious disappearance from the second express, which brought the Premier to Invercargill toniglit. Mr and Mrs Gibson and-their 20-year-old daughter Lizzie were passengers Iroin Dunedin. Lizzie was known to. be bn , the train as far a; Clinton, but has,.not :. since been seen, though her. absence was hbt reported till this side of Gore. The mother told a reporter who was on tlie train ..that tile girl had said: .“Mother, father’s had a drop of drink. I feel like, jumping off .the train.” It was suggested that the girl might have left the train at Gore, though the parents state she knew nobody here. A passenger says he knew the, girl, and in his opinion she was, not on .the train when it reached Gore. Inquiries are being made and, the line is being searched. ;
