TRIED TO KILL THE KING
HISTORY OF AN ATTEMPT TO MURDER KING EDWARD VII. A Leading Citizen of Brussels, Should King George ever visit Brussels on his travels it is likely that he will be greeted bv. among others, a young man who tried to murder his father, Edward VII. Sipido, who, as a 15-year-old boy, fired two shots from a revolver at the late King when he was Prince of Wales, in 1900, at the Nord Station here, has just been elected to the Brussels Municipal Council. He is now only 26, a father, nearly a millionaire, a coming politician —and all this because he fired a revolver into the air perilously near the head of foreign Royalty, At the time he was PLACED IN’ A REFORMATORY as irresponsible and remained there three years. At the cud of that period he was not only certified to be sane, but exceedingly clever. During bis incarceration he patented four inventions,, pne of them being the tram door handle no wi nuse all over Europe. Being allowed to join the army, he promptly rose from the ranks, married, and established himself in business in Brussels. Next he blossomed forth as a 'oliticiau of the red flag order. - He quickly came to the front, his speeches being heralded as by “the only man who tried to kill a king- anti escaped the vengeance of society.” He is now on the high road to the Senate and eventually may be Mayor of the citv.
