HAYWARD’S PICTURES
A large audience greeted enthusiastically the, new series of pictures at the Lyceum on Saturday night. An even widei variety of subjects than usual was shown . and practically all were, the production; .of. film manufacturing firms in the very front rank; including the Vitagra|ih and A.li. Companies. “The Miller’s Daughter,’’ it is almost unnecessary to say, if of the. romantic type. This film is beautifully" tinted much enhancing tin effect'. The same remark-appli.ee to “A Day with the Bees,” which while of special interest to apiarist*, is.a pleasing item t: all. Some really delightful scenery is disclosed in the picturesque Grotia. Another excellent topical item is the visit of King Peter of Servin to Romo. Among the cere monies arranged in honour thereof is r military review, in which the famous Italian cavalry take a prominent part. Those whose tastes lie in the direction of the sensational element are liberally catered for by exclusive Bison and Champion films. “A Knight of the Trail,” and “Stolen by Indians.” Of the items in lighter vein, the Vita graph comedy “The .Stumbling Block, is entitled to hsingled out. That clever and beautiful collie dog, Jean, tda-vs aa'important,par-t therein. It is certainly a captivating film, especially eo to animal lovers. Other amusing: subjects' arc “The Beautiful Y r oice.” :“An Unfair Game ” and “Girls Will be Bovs.” This good all-round set of pictures W ill be screened again to-night. In addition to this fine programme patrons at the Lyceum- to-night will be able to wit--1 ■ css socially fine pictures taken by Mr O. F, Newham while in Taranaki recently. The film is 1000 feet long, and comprises “A Trio on the Moknu” and “Now Plymouth,” There are some remarkably beautiful scenes on the Mokau river, and Mr Newham is said ,to have made the most of his opportunities. Among the views at Now Plymouth and on the Mokau eve: Railway yards, Devon Street, the Recreation Grounds, garden fete at "Brooklands.” the Meeting of 'the Waturs, seas along the coast from' New Plymouth, et the Breakwater, a. stormy day off MikoHM Point, along the banks of the Haul ipu, and the Tuarangareri Falls.

FULLERS’ PICTURES
The Opera House was packed last evening' on the occasion of the Thursday night programme presented by Messrs J.’ Fuller and; Sons, which, proved a splendid collection, abd met with the entire approbation of the audience. The dramatic film " ,"Captain Kate.” showing thrilling adventures in the r African forest, captivated the fancy of the audience, and hardly less noteworthy was the dramatisation of “John Halifax, Gentleman.” "Sea Anemones” was a. pretty and interesting study, and the picturies of Burgess making his famous swim" 'across the CTlianncl aroused keen interest liy the faithful way m which various incidents of the great feat'were illustrated. , Pathe’s Gazette, together'with the same linn's Australian budget, presented the events of the day in miniature in a clear and striking fashion, while the comics added the necessary .'touch of merriment-to complete the enjoyment of the iaudience. In addition to the subjects napied above,-which- may bef regarded as the star turns, there was a fine selection of . all ' classes of motion pictures, the wholp forming an attractive entertainment in keeping with the name which the Fuller management has earned. As usual, O’Hara’s Symphony Orchestra added materially to the evening's enjoyment.
"THE GAY GORDON’S.”
Commenting on “Tlio Gay Gordons, " the the new musical play by Seymour Hicks and Guy Jones, which is to bo produced in the Opera House, for one night only, on Wednesday, November Bth, and which is in the hands of Clarke and Meynell’s now English Comic Opera Company, the Wellington Post says;—“‘The Guy Gordons' was welcomed by a packed audience. The players are very jolly people indeed. They frivolled whole-heartedly in glad clothes and blithe spirits for three hours, and the auditors, greatly provoked, found it an exceedingly difficult business to catch up with the hilarity and the spring-clean-ing comedy that rushed past on its glad course. . . .' If there were any crotchety people at the beginning they must quickly have been caugh± up and transformed to the prevailing jollity that welled over the footlights.” The new piece is described as “a play with music.’’ It provides all shades of comedy, touches of idyllic lovemaking, a poke rent plot/ and a whole book full oft vocal numbers. Mr Phil Goatcher has put' some characteristically beautiful worx into the setting, and the dresses and surroundings are particularly gay. The box plan will lie opened at H. I. Jones and Sons’ to-morrow, (Saturday! morning, at 8 o’clock, when intending patrons are advised to book their seats to avoid disappointment.
St. Paul’s Hall held a large audience, last evening on the occasion of the concert in connection- with the Turakina Maori Girls’ College. 'The Rev. J. D. McKenzie, who presided, gave a brief address, outlining the training given ’at the College under the able guidance of the principal, Mr Hamilton, and stated that the Presbyterian Church hoped soon to be able to establish a similar instituiton for Maori boys. The girls of the College gave several items, in the shape of poi dances and action songs, which were much appreciated. and efficiently rendered the cantata “Soot and 'the Fairies.” The following also assisted;— Miss V. Price (violin solo), Messrs Henry and Herbert Collier (violin and piano trio with Miss Price). Messrs Morrison and Kelly songs. Mr Henry Collier acted as accompanist. A successful concert was closed with a vote of thanks to the performers, and the singing of the National Anthem.
