PERSONAL.
The following very fine tribute, to the late Andrew Stewart (formerly of Wanganui) is clipped from the Petoue Chronicle of Tuesday last:—By tbo death of Andrew Stewart, the companionship of the Hult and Pctone Chronicle has suffered an irreparable loss and the town of Potono a good citizen. The call came very suddenly to our comrade. Ho- was working at his linotype until late on Tuesday night, when ho complained of a severe headache. He was very ill through the night and next morning, improved in the afternoon, but had a severe turn in the evening, when ho became delirious. He was removed to the Wellington Hospital an Friday afternoon and passed away on Saturday at 5 o’clock. Tho late Mr Stewart was a man of quite singular attainments. Ho had a bent for mechanics, and the more complicated the worn, in hand the greater delight he took in its accomplishment. Ho superintended the erection of the doublc-dookcr linotvpo which was recently imported from America, and had already mastered the intricacies and become a proficient keyboard manipulator when his fatal illness came. We snail all miss him very much. His sunny nature, and his extreme helpfulness with all branches of our labours, endeared him to every associate in the office. Great sympathy will bo extended to his mother, sisters, and brothers in their deep loss. One of the late Mr Stewart's brothers is a well-known steeplechase rider who has won laurels on the Australian turf, 'Hie bodv is being laid to rest in the Taita cemetery this afternoon. Late last night a telegram was received from Dr. Kumm accepting an invitation to lecture in Wanganui. Ho will lecture in the Girls’ College Hall on the evening of Tuesday next, November 7th, when the Rev. J. LI. Dove will preside. His Worship the Mayor will give Dr. Kumm a civic welcome in tho Council Chamber in the afternoon at 4 o’clock. Archbishop Jacob will represent the Anglican Church at the reception, and the members of tho Ministers’ Association will also attend. The many friends of Mr C. W. Tremewan, who has been laid up for several months, will be pleased to hear that he is considerably improved, and able to come into town in an invalid’s chair occasion* ally, Mr G. F. Moore, of Kai Iwi. was most successful at the Palmerston Show, practically scooping the pool in the Hereford division. His exhibits annexed six firsts.
