REGISTRATION OF ELECTORS.

Judging by reports which reach us from time to time, there is a likelihood of some would-be voters finding themselves without a vote by the time election day comes round. In most cases the fault will bo largely their own. We hear, for instance, of several electors finding themselves either not on the rolls or else on the wrong roll, but apparently they are content to leave it at that, and take no steps to put matters right by applying to tho-Regis-trar’s office for enrolment or transfer. It is necessary to impress on electors the fact that it is no part of tho Registrar’s duty to shift names from one roll to another without knowledge that this is necessary, and it stands to reason that he cannot bo expected to have a personal acquaintance with every single one of 8000 or 9000 men and women, nor to know their places of residence. Those principally concerned are Aramnho and Castleeliff voters, on account of the recent boundary alterations in those localities. Especially does confusion seem to exist in the minds of many people at Aramoho, where many people, we understand, are wrongly registered, in numerous cases owing to changes of residence on their own part. Those people should themselves have matters put right without delay by calling at the Registrar’s office, Hon Accord Chambers, Ridgway Street, explaining the position, and making application in the usual way to lie registered iu their respective electorates. The Registrar and his staff are at all times willing and anxious to assist electors in this direction. The main roll is already closed, and tho supplementary roll will be closed in two or three weeks! time, and possibly in a fortnight. No time should therefore be lost, and, as stated above, if application he not made by voters themselves the loss of their privileges will he largely their own fault. 1
