No-License In Invercargill.
TO THK EDITOB. Six, —“Freedom” lias not been able to refute any one of my statements in support of “Temperance”. He lias “said it is not true,” but he las not brought forward one jot of evidence to substantiate his claim. I will .’lose my correspondence with “Freedom” with the following statement in support of No-liccnse in New Zealand. The Mayor of Invercargill says “I have much pleasure in stating that ill so far as Invercargill is concerned Nolicense has been an ■ undoubted success. Having lived in the town under both ■No-license and License T can safely say that under No-liconse law the town is cleaner, more law-abiding, and in every respect better by the.closing of the open liquor bars. It must he admitted by any , ‘unbiased’ mind that money previously expended in the purchase of liquor, deprived of this method of expenditure, will he used in channels much more beneficial for tlie individual and for the community. This has been Invercargill’s experience. So ‘satisfied’ are the residents that there is not the remotest chance, of the district returning to the old conditions existing prior to 1906.”—William A. Ott, Mayor of Invercargill. 31sfc July, 1911, ’ ... ‘. . The above is also endorsed by three ex-Mayors—C. S. Longuet, J. Stead, J. P., and G. Froggott. 150 citizens, names which can bo seen in black and white. This and reports from other No-license districts prove Mr Collard’s remarks to bo founded on “facts.”.—l am, etc., Advt. , ONE OF THEM.
