CRICKET.

THE ENGLISH TEAM IN AUSTRALIA'. WARNER INTERVIEWED. Press Association.— I Telegraph.—Copyright. Received November 1, 9.15 a.m. ; FREMANTLE, October 1. . Warner, captain of the M.C.C. crickit team, which has arrived here, on being interviewed said lie had a splendid team of fighters. He could'not say how it compared with previous teams, but it was the best possible, except for Fry and Spooner. He would not say he thought they won! 1 win, but .the whole team would do its best. Fry was at the top of his form, although ,40 years of age, and was batting better than ever, but he was not equal to Trumpcr. Warner was reticent about comparing the merits of different members of the team. All were good in different departments. The three lefthanded batsmen—Kinncar, Mead, and Woolley—would : be invaluable to the team. Hitch was the fastest.bowler, and was also a brilliant field. Cricket was flourishing in England, where they had had a splendid summer. He did not think the triangular scheme practicable under a period of every ton years, anyhow’, as it would greatly dislocate county cricket. It -was not true that he had had his pockets picked when being farewelled at London as cabled. Such a story was ao distinct libel on the light-fingered gentry. During this tour amateurs and professionals would stop at the same hotels. The Englishmen will open their tour at , Adelaide on Friday, the 10th hist,, in a ' match against South Australia. ENGLISH COACH FOR AUCKLAND. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 1. G. J. Thompson arrived by the Atheuic. He goes on to to-morrow to coach for the Cricket Association. He thinks the, English team a good allround one, and it should pull safely through the tests. It could have been improved, but not to a great extent.
