BOWLING.
SUGGESTED AMALGAMATION OP THE TWO "ASSOCIATIONS. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 31. The Canterbury Bowling Centre has carried the following motion:—“ That this centre is of opinion that the amalgamation of. the New Zealand Bowling-Associa-tion and Northern Association would bp in the best interests of bowling, and the council of the New Zealand Association be requested without further delay to take steps to have the question placed before the affiliated clubs and centres! WANGANUI CLUB. The Wanganui Bowling Club'opened the season on Saturday afternoon, when, althougJi the weather was delightfully fine, the greens were too soft for play, and so the ceremony was robbed of some of its picturesqueness. The attendance was excellent, and after the customary photo of the group bad been taken, the president, Mm J. T. Stewart, in a short speech, declared the season opened. In the course of his remarks he said it was 25 years since the Wanganui Club was first established, and he was one of the original members. During that time the players bad always looked forward to a good, day for the opening, and lm- was .sorry that play could not be allowed that day, as old members always made excellent resolutions that they would play better during the coming season than thev did during the last.; When the Wanganui Club was formed there was only one other-club on the Coast, and that was at New Plymouth. Mr “Joe” Paul was tho founder of that club,'and during the Wanganui Club’s first season he often camo down to Wanganui and coached the new meiribers in the mysteries of the game. •Tiie club had 90 members last year, and he hoped that the excellent play would be repeated again this year. The Keesing Cup, which could not be competed for last year on account of the unfavourable weather, and a” long list of trophies would be available for members to compete for this year. He was very glad to see the success that was attending bowling generally along the coast, and he especially congratulated the Gonvills Club, on their enterprise in laying down a green. A hearty invitation was extended -to all visitors to attend the green any time they felt so disposed. The green-would (Provided the weather kept good) be opened for play next Saturday, when the annual President v. Vice-president Match would be played. Mrs Stewart then threw the “jack’ to the accompaniment of; .cheeps and applause from the members. and, their friends. The remainder of the afternoon was spent in social intercourse and tea, Mrs J. T. Stewart and Mrs H. Sarjeant acting as hostesses for the latter. There will be no play on the Wanganui Club’s green till Saturday afternoon next; when the play postponed from the opening function will take place.
