THE KYNNERSLEY MEMORIAL.

The following passage occurs iu a letter from the father of the late Mr Kynuersloy relating to his son's death. The letter is addressed to a gentleman iu Nelson:

" I should like very much if there were any opportunity to express my thanks to the diggers who carried him to his last resting place. He always spoke most warmly of their sterling good qualities, and of their attachment to himself. His thorough straight forwardness and absence of all pretentiousness would be sure to recommeud him to their esteem, and I value very much their regard for him. " 1 shall be anxious to know what form of testimonial is selected by his friends, though any one will bo most welcome, and most gratefully ackuow« ledged by his family. " I shall always take a deep interest in the West Coast, and if I xvoro a few years younger I should like of al things to see it, and especially the place where he is laid, but I fear there is little chance of that now."

The remarks about the testimonial refer, it would seem, to the West Coast testimonial, since we are informed that a gravestone is erectod in the Nelson Cemetery, and that this was done in conformity with the wishes of the family. We fear fie latter will feel some disappointment when they learn the ill success of the Westport Committee in collecting funds for the testimonial. So far as we know, the large committee which was formed at Beefton has not collected a shilling. At f.ll events the Westport Committeo has heard nothing of it.
