Captain Russell, of the schooner Canterbury, reports 18 feet of water on the bar yesterday morning, one hour before high water. The s.s. Maori left Dunedin at 8 on Saturday, the sth instant ; called off Timaru at 6.30 on Sunday morning; left there at 9.30, and arrived at Lyttelton at 10.30 p.m. Left Lyttelton on Monday at 4.30, and arrived at Picton on Tuesday at 2 p.m.; leaving there at 3.30 and anchoring in the French pass f r the night; arriving at Nelson at £ on Wednesday morning ; leaving that port at 5.30 the same evening, and dropping anchor in the Bullcr at 2 p.m. yesterday. Fine weather prevailed throughout the trip. The Maori brings a good quantity of cargo for this and southern ports. She left for Greymouthat 11 o'clock last evening, and on her next trip, in about fourteen days time, •will come south about, via the,, Bluff, from Dunedin. We are indebted to Mr J. C. Ponsonby, purser, for files.

The schooner Canterbury was towed in yesterday by the Charles Edward, and has begun to discharge at the Wakefield street wharf. She left Wellington on the 28th ult.,and has 205 rails on board. James Powell and Co. are agents for this craft.

It was expected that the Kennedy would be launched yesterday at Greymouth. Many in Westport will regret to hear that the smart little schooner K.ituna, which recently visited this port on her maiden trip from Lyttelton, is reported as having foundered off Akaroa, with loss of all hands.

It will observed by a change made in the shipping advertisement of (lie Anchor Line of steamboats, that Messrs Bailie and Humphrey have been appointcJ agents for Westport.

The ship Chile has sailed from Nelson t Port Underwood, to load with wool fo: London direct.
