A LIVELY NIGHT.
A painter living below the Argyle Hall, Maclaggan street, Duncdin, recently summoned the proprietor of that establishment to the Resident Magistrate's Court, and sought to recover £SO damages for loss of rest and discomfort, caused by the proceedings in "the ball. Plaintiff's tale was a touching one. His children were ail in various stages of the measles, and through the defendant allowing dancing to take place in a room ovtr their heads their sufferings were greatly intensified. During the niglr, not being able to sleep, plaintiff occupied himself in taking the following "notes of proceedings," which were read out, to the great amusement of everyone in court:— " Notes of Proceedings.— Friday, 23rd, 8.30. A tremendous stamp en floor, over our heads. 9.30 Music, and marching round room. 10 o'clock Dancing in full swing. 10.30—Sergeant of Police came in; dancing renewed in a more heavy manner. Called the attention of Polreeman at 11 o'clock. lie did not interfere. 12 o'clock—Song ' White Squall.' Immense stamping. Song and chorus— ' I kiss her, and court her, and ask her to bo mine ' Stamping on floor. Comic Song—' How is the boy ? ' ' Head as bald as face.' Comic Song* dancing.' Saturday, 1 o'clock—Heavy dancing and whistling : kind of music; many nearly drunk, staggering into pio shop. Building shaking with heavy dancing. Dancing from door on to side walk in front; heavy kicking on floorj some leaving drunk. (Police Sergeant) 130 o'clock— Dancing. (Policeman called again-) 2 o'clock—Dancing. Song—'Evening for a ramble.' ' Kiss, and never tell.' Great stamping on floor. Song —' I'll never forget;'' Coming through the rye.' Applause. Dancing, and diunken singing till daylight—s o'clock."
