[lyell argus.] United Alpine. The tunnel, driven at an acute angle with the reef, has struck it at about 40 feet inside the ground formerly belonging- to the Exeelsioi* Company, and has been traced across the boundary and some 10 feet in on the original Alpine claim. . The large heap of quartz lyincp at tlis mouth of the tunnel shows gold plainly and some remarkably rich specimens have been obtained. Little Wondeh.—A trencli has been opened for the end of the leader near the Oiiental boundary. Oriental.—ln ihe south tunnel a block 80 ft. by 30 ft. is being- taken out. About 80 tons of quartz is now lying- in the paddock. 'lhe directors have instructed their manager to commence a new tunnel to strike the gold bearing leader on the boundary of the Lyell Creek company's ground. Monte Curisto. —Beyond the uprise a winze has been carried down on the leader in a south westerly direction for a distance of 40 feet. The leader in the winze, six inches in thickness, looks remarkably well. The tunnel is in 70 feet further. Prospects taken from the face in the uprise are reported on as noted—one of half a dish from the winze one of half a shovel, from the uprise, and the other, of half a shovel, from the drive. The stone was not crushed in any way. It was simply washed in an iron dish, and gave the following magnificent results Without breaking it gave a handful of specimens besides half a dwt of loose gold from the winze prospect, a smaller quantity of specimens but more loose gold from that than from the uprise. That from the drive though eminently payable was not so rich. Main Reef.— In the United Alpine claim, at the low level tunnel 50 feet of a reef is now exposed, which is considered to be the main reef, for which repeated and'costly search has been so often made. The importance of the discovery was adequately marked by the first banquet ever held in Zalatown, which took place on Monday, 23rd inst., when 37 of-the friends of the shareholders sat down to partake of their hospitality and to congratulate them on their great good fortune. Half-yearly meetings in December Lyell Creek, 10th; Central Buller, Oriental, and Break o' Day, 19th. An extraordinary mee-ing of the shareholders of the United Alpine Qunnz Mining- Company Limited, was held at the office Lyell on Monday 23rd November, when the following appointments were made .-—Manager, Mr David Stuart; auditors, Messrs Dempsey tmrl Montgomery ; and directors, Messrs llnghan, Walsh, Ryan, Cacaee and Snxton. The directors were furthermore authorised to borrow money. On Tuesday the shareholders <>'' tin- United .uontti Uliru'o Mining Company Limited, met together a', an extraordinary meeting-, find appointed Mr Stuart to he mining- manager, Messrs Dempsey and Montgomery to be auditors, and Messrs Sax'on, Hodden, I Seek, Lewis, and W. G. White to be j directors. '
