HINT TO HOUSEKEEPERS.
Autolycus of the Greymouth Star writes:—At the request of a few personal friends who, like myself, are not over-burdened with coin, I have been looking up an cookery-book for the purpose of finding out an efficient and economical way of preparing meat when it is a shilling a pound. The recipes I have discovered will be published from time to time. Among many I select the Lottery Pudding. To make this dish take Sibs of flour, mix with milk and eggs into a thick ) batter; then take one quarter of a pound of rump steak and divide the same into six equal parts. Mix into the batter and boil for two hours; serve hot. This makes a satisfying meal for seven persons, and will be found invaluable at the present time to parents of families. It provides a wholesome repast with all the excitement usual!}' attending an art union, because no one knows until he eats his dinner how much meat falls to his share. N.B.—lf any person obtains more than two pieces he is requested not to make a beast of himself but share with his neighbor.
