BY EL EGTRIG TEL EG RAP II

[Per Anglo-Australian Telegraph Agency.] AUCKLAND. October 6 The Honorable John Williamson has entered an action against the Improvement Commissioners to compel them to buy a piece of land in Sliortland street, for the sum of £5500, the price fixed by arbitration under The Land Clauses Consolidation Act. The Commissioners had given notice of withdrawal after the award was announced, on the ground that it was excessive, but the Honorable J. Williamson's counsel says they cannot do so and maintains that the award under the Act, stands in the same position as a judgment of Court. The case is regarded as of great importance in connection with compulsory land taking for public purposes.
