September 11. Mr Eollestou addressed his constituents for two hour 3 last night. He much regretted hearing of Mr Vogel leaving for England, at a time when his presence here was absolutely necessary. He pointed out that contributions to the revenue of the colony by Canterbury and Otago nearly equalled the contributions of the rest of the colony. He considered Mr Vogel's threat of dissolution unconstitutional, and repeated the chief arguments used against the abolition resolutions, saying that the time was inopportune, and the people should have been consulted. An unanimous vote of confidence was passed.WELLINGTON. September 11. The Gazette notifies the following Provincial Ordinances left to operation : —Education, Trespass, impounding, Appropriation, and llokitika Street Closing Ordinance. So much confidence is felt in the assurance given by the Government to Grcymouth deputation that arrangements arc being made for the importation of screw colliers especially adapted for the Greymouth trade. W. and G. Turnbull have lodged a claim for ten thousand pounds salvage against the ship Strathnaver, towed in by the Stormbird a few days ago. September 11.
The Luna is to leave here at midnight for Manukau direct, with Mr Vogel. The Luna remains there several days to await the Macgregor's mail, and bring it south. Captain Fairchild is to go home to purchase a new steamer for the Government, in place of the Luna. September 12. It is understood that Mr Walter Kennaway, Provincial. Secretary of Canterbury, has been appointed secretary to the Agent-General, and goes home very shortly to enter upon his duties. AUCKLAND. (September 11. The ship Loch Urn has arrived from London ; 95 days from Gravesend. No passengeis. The Reform League held a public meeting—the Mayor iu the chair —and passed resolutions in favor of abolishing provincialism throughout the colony. They intend establishing committee branches of the society in all parts of the colony. Captain Dakly was the chief speaker.
