INTER-COLONICAL NEWS.
The Tasmauian Tribune of the 13th ult. reports good news from the northern golduelds. A telegram from Launeoston convoys the pleasing intelligence that at the washing up at the Golden Point claim, from twenty, eight tons, crushed, 1315 ounces of gold were obtained. The Tribuue says : Truly the goldfiolds of Northern Tasmania are realising the predictions which we once expressed of their richness; and if we may again venture we Fay that the recent successes will bo followed by still greater success. The Alta California says: —"The Executive Council of JN'ew South Wales has determined to pardon a number of convicts who had been imprisoned eight or ten year 3 for highway robbery, under the condition that they shaii leave Australia. That is v.ery kind on the part of New South Wales ; and as many of these scamps would in the ordinary course of business come to California, we, might get even by pardoning a lot of our most dangerous felons, if they will promise to go to New South Wales and send each back the scalp of a member of the Executive Council." Tlig Mersey and J)eloraine tramway, Launeeston (Tasmania), of seventeen miles, was sold recently by the sheriff, under a writ of jl. fa. for £SOO, to Messrs John "Porster and Atkin Morrison.
While Sir Hercules Robinson lias been amusing himself b} r winning races and pardoning bushrangers, Lady Robinson has been " sitting" upon Sydney society. Her first innovation was asking a number of young ladies to a party at Government House, having previously excused herself to their mammas on the ground that she was in mourning, and did not mean to give more than a carpet dance. The experiment was so successful that on the next occasion Lady h'obinson did not take the trouble to write to the mammas at all, but communicated direct with the young ladies. The matrons took the alarm, held a meeting, and the result was that all the invitations were declined. Since that period there has been a deadly feud between the upper tea of Sydney and the Government House, until La'ly Robinson felt it only prudent to hang out the white flag and make overtures for peace.
