THE DEATH BLOW.

Wo arc indebted to the Grey mouth Star for the following heroic versilication : -

Now honor to our Premier, who with one decisive blow Hath scattered the provineialists, and wrought their overthrow ; And lot there be a filling up of cups of whiskey neat To drink the health ofhim who caused Pi'oviucialdom's defeat.

The ranks were mustered in their force, all eager for the fray, When Julius from the lobby came to marshal his array. He looked on his supporters, and his glance betrayed no fear, Then on the Opposition gazed with calm contemptuous sneer.

Then graciously he whispered: "My friends need fear no hurt. If I raise my jewelled finger—our foes their Cause desert. Long have I borne their insolence as scarcely worth my steel ; The mercenaries now I ween, my power will have to feel."

Then clearly rings the cry, " To Arms,' as cither side engage,

And pour forth volleys of big words with it's dropped in rage ; While arguments and facts are cast aside as little use To men whose only chance depends on meaningless abuse.

And fast and furious grows the figlit, for " Wigs are ou the green." Snort Curtis struggles bravely and so does long Eugene, While Harrison and eke John White resolved to win the day, Discharge their mimic guns in air, then bravely run away.

Oh ! calmly smiled great Julius when the division bell With cheery tinkling note proclaimed Provincialism's knell, And of that proud vaunting army that had dared the chief to fight, Sixteen remained upon the field to own the Premier right.

Oh ! weep ye gallant Supers, who your bread will need to earn, Now mourn the loss of petty powers that never shall return ; And Secretary's take again the tools ye used of yore. The hand has written on the wall, TFe shall misrule no more.

The victory's gained. Prom north to south the fettered lightning flies ;

In every town the message is received with glad surprise, While, men throw up " bell-toppers," and. in gobicts of P.B. Pledge Julius and bis great design to sot the country free.
