BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of Council was held on Wednesday eveuing. Present —The Mayor and" Crs Munson, Stitt, Organ, Blacklock, AVhyte, and Suisted. CORBESPONDENCE. Prom C. H. W. Bowen calling attention of Council to state of road in Cobden street, between Catholic Chapel and the Municipal Reserve, and requesting that stumps might be removed ; and also referring to the fact that the last encroachment of the sea had made the tramway a series of chasms, and suggesting that a footpath, some 12 feet wide, would prove of great service to the public. Referred to the Public Works Committee, with power to act. Prom H. G. Pitcher, Secretary to the Fire Brigade, stating that the Brigade had no available fuuds for sinking more wells along Palmerston street, and suggesting to the Council the advisability of opening up Henley, Lyndhurst, and Brougham streets, from Palmerston street to the river, so that a supply of water might be always available in case of fire. Referred to the Public Works Committee for report. RESIGNATION. Councillor Suisted tendered his resignation as Councillor, owing to ill-health, and the recommendation of his medical adviser that he should " avoid all excitement." The resignation was accepted. TENDEKS. For work in Henley street, George Cameron teudered at £6O for the whole work, and Seymour and Linley at £3 18s per chain. Proposed by Cr Organ, seconded by Cr Munson, " That the tender of Messrs Seymour and Linley be referred to the Public Works Committee, to accept if there is no objection from subscribers beyond Queen street, and that the balance of the sum required, £9 ISs, be subscribed." Cr Whyte proposed, as an amend, ment, " That the specification for the work required be re-considered by the Public Works Committee, with a view to reduce the cost, and the Committee to report at next meeting." Seconded by Cr Blacklock. For amendment, Crs Whyte and Blacklock voted; and for the motion, the Mayor, and Crs Stitt, Organ, and Munson. The motion was declared carried. APPEALS. Report No. 11 of Finance Committee was read and adopted. The report recommended the following amendments in valuation:— Reduced to Sec. £. £ s, M. Organ ... 152 SO 50 do ... 175 100 70 do ... 551 SO 30 do ... 586 50 30 J. R. Eraser ... 96 40 30 do ... D. M'Leod ... 563 nil Bank N. Z. ... J. L. Munson 40 25 1G 10 ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment : —Buller News Co., £2 Gs 4d; Hanna, on account, £SO 17s 6d. BUHGESS ROLL. Proposed by Cr Munson, seconded by Cr Stitt and carried, " That tenders be invited for printing say 100 copies of the Burgess Roll, and that the Tenders Committee be empowered to have the work done, provided satisfactory tenders be received. SPECIAL MEETING. At a special meeting held in accordance with resolution passed on the sth instant, for the purpose of making resolutions under the XIII Schedule, it was resolved that the meeting should stand adjourned until Friday the 21st instant.
