BOROUGH COUNCIL.

At the ordinary meeting held on Wednesday evening, present The Mayor and all councillors, with the exception of Cr Organ, the following business was transacted . COItRKSPOIT DTS.SC E, From 11. C. Daniclis, Commissioner of Crown Lands, enclosing list of sales of sections in Westport up to date. From J. R. Fraser, giving notice of intention to appeal against rate ( t G10) on dwellinghousc on sec. CG Queen street. Tho property having been rated the previous year at £3O only, and in Mr Eraser's opinion had since decreased in value. From. the same correspondent, notifying intention to object to valuation (£2O) on shop and dwelling, section 90 Kennedy street, because the same had been rendered untenable by reason of tho sea encroachment. From J. Rafferly, objecting to rating of his tenement in Russell street, because of the house being in the middle of the street and not on a rateable section, From Mr M'Lcod objecting to rating of section 563 Queen street, in his name, he not being the owner, and objecting also to Wakefield street wharf rating at £SOO per annum, as being excessive.

From the manager of the Westport branch of the Bank of New Zealand objecting to rating of section occupied by the: bank premises in Wakelield street, as being in excess of the yearly value, calculated on the cost of the premises and market value of sections. From AV. S. Muuday, objecting to rating of his properly in Rintoul and Wallabi streets. Such rating .being in excess of last valuation, and out of proportion to rating of property, in tho same locality. Also objecting to rate on cottage in Wallabi street as being above the utmost annual rental now obtainable, namely, £lO per annum. The correspondence was received, and on the motion of Cr Suisted, seconded by Cr Blacklock, tho objections, to valuation were referred to the - Finance Committee for report thereon at next sitting of the Council, ACCOUNTS. The following accouuts were passed for payment: Win. Morris, £S 15s ; Jno. Murdoch, £ls, on account. The account of .James Coulahan was referred to the Public Works Committee, and tho Finance Committee was authorised to pay the sum if approved of. ■ SPECIAJ, 'MEETING-. Proposed by Cr Whyte, seconded and carried " That a special meeting of the Council be held on AVednesdny the ,19th .instant to consider the regulations to bo made under the XIII Schedule of the Municipal Corporations Act."
