NEWS OF COSTELLO.—NO MURDER COMMITTED.
(To the Editor of the Westport Times.) Sib, —I am not aware of the West Coast people having heard anything of Costello, who disappeared from the Upper Buller district in such a way as to cause suspicions of his safety. I have seen a miner who left your district some months since for the Palmer rush, and who has returned. He informs me that Costello is alive and living at Newcastle, Australia. My informant is well-known at Westport, viz., Thomas M'Grath, lately of Waite's Pakihis. lie did'not see him (Costello) himself, but saw two meu who knew Costello well. One a storekeeper, lately at Brighton, named Chapman; the name of the other I do not recollect, but ho was a boatman lately ontheßuller. Believing that your readers will be glad to hear that there was no murder committed, I make free to give you the above information. —I am, &c, John G. Dudgeon, Late of Addisons. Nelson, June 16, 1874.
